Siroun Kaloustian: Ghazal for Hayastan

Frosted peaks patiently wait in forgotten sleepy Armenia
Noah’s hallowed resting ground in a wronged weepy Armenia

Generations displaced, raped and expelled ripped from a weakly Armenia
Oh––what ancestral black tears drown seepy Armenia

Children of diaspora listen to wrinkled lips paint a dreamy Armenia
Lush, green, majestic laughter rising to the top––a creamy Armenia

Almond eyes lost to foreign lands wound a dreary Armenia
Her call tugs the soul beckoning them home to strengthen a meekly Armenia

I, Siroun, am too a daughter of unbroken steely Armenia
Awaiting spring to produce new fruit upon the branches of a leafy Armenia
