Lorne Shirinian: My Wife

The whole night spent preparing
lessons for those kids
while I drink Turkish coffee
and study Armenian

Even at night I am selfish
I leave you sleeping
silhouetted against my dreams
I light an unused Sabbath candle
on my desk
I want to give you something more than this poem

Soon I will drive you to work
then return to my desk
to plot other courses
while you teach

Already I am thinking of what
to make for supper tomorrow
