William Michaelian: Someone's Mother

Do you see that woman sitting there? In a thousand years
or so I will cross the street — it takes that long when
I'm in this state of mind — and buy all the flowers
she has left so she can go home and get an
early start on making supper while
I recall the lines in her face
and the pain and joy
that put them
there.
